Writing, Reading and the Elusive Relaxation

Well, Turkey Day has passed and Christmas is upon us!  This is definitely my favorite time of the year.  I’ve got my tree up, my stockings hanging, and my letter to Santa has been stamped and put in the mail.

Writing has been keeping me busy this past month as I furiously scribble down my first YA novel.  I’d have to say that if you’ve ever wanted to write a novel, or if you’ve started but find it slow-going, then definitely sign up for NaNoWriMo.  Heck – you can even challenge yourself to write 50,000 words in one month.  It’s no easy feat – especially if you have a lot of other stuff going on in life.  So I’m just under 16,000 words away from hitting my goal for NaNo and I really think I can do it.  The end is in sight.  And it’s a relief.  But it also shows me that I need to keep writing because this book is a hoss and it’s not even halfway done yet.  Of course it’s all messy full of gaping plot holes, typos galore, and complete disconnects – but there are some shiny sparkly moments in there too.  🙂  Once I wrap it up and give it a once over, I’ll start sharing tiny snippets.

So in between all this fantabulous writing I got going on, I’m reading one of my Waiting on Wednesday picks.  It’s The Shattered Dark by Sandy Williams and so far it’s pretty good.  If you like fae urban fantasy, I definitely recommend it, but you need to read The Shadow Reader first.

So with all this going on, relaxation is elusive.  Or at least it has been for the month of November.  But I have a nice little vacation coming up in December.  And this weekend, the hubs and I are going to a fabulous Christmas party filled with casino games, drinks and fun times.  That will be relaxing – I hope. 🙂

So, what are you reading, writing or doing to relax?

Ciao kittens!

  1. I'm reading Wild Fire by Christine Feehan. I'm also writing my tail off. Since I lost my part time job and have no real desire to find another I've decided I HAVE to publish as many books next year as possible. 😉
